Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., condemned a joint statement by the leaders of France, Germany, and the United Kingdom after the U.S. attack on Iran, saying in a Saturday post on X that European leaders had “gone pathetically soft” as President Donald Trump launched what the U.S. calls Operation Epic Fury against Iran. “To say I’m disappointed in the joint statement by leaders from France, Germany, and the UK regarding Operation Epic Fury is an understatement,” Graham wrote, arguing that Europe shows urgency on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine but not on Iran. He called Europe “pathetic” and said the leaders were “adding insult to injury” by suggesting negotiations should continue.
Graham said Europe had “lost your zeal for confronting evil apparently unless it’s on your front porch.” “It is so sad to see Western democracies lose their passion for justice and a sense of right and wrong, the further away from their shores the event occurs,” he said.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese issued statements on Saturday morning supporting United States and Israeli military operations against Iran.
Saudi Arabia on Saturday morning strongly condemned Iranian missile attacks against U.S. bases hosted by their Gulf allies, and threatened to take actions if Iran continues violating their sovereignty.
French President Emmanuel Macron has called for an “urgent meeting” of the United Nations Security Council, while Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchéz said that Madrid “rejects” strikes from the United States and Israel against the Islamist regime in Iran on Saturday.
