According to a new study, high levels of immigration are increasingly overwhelming the German school system. Germany’s schools are under growing strain from migrant pupils, according to a new study that highlights deep regional differences in education quality. Researchers from the German Economic Institute (IW) claim that the proportion of pupils at risk from weak reading skills has risen sharply, with IW expert Axel Plünnecke describing 2015 as a “watershed”—after which schools became increasingly overwhelmed by high levels of immigration.
